Managing Conflict: A Body & Movement Course
With Stuart and Carol Heller
Bottom-line, whenever people come together, whenever there are multiple goals and values, and whenever time and resource constraints are present, conflict happens. In other words, conflict is a fact of life.
Our problems with conflict lie in how we deal with it. Just the idea of the possibility of conflict is enough to shift your chemical balance, muscular tension, internal conversation, mood, and your readiness to respond.
From the non-verbal perspective, the way we handle encounters shapes how we handle everything that comes our way, objects, people, events, or deadlines. Learning to dance with the non-verbal dimension of conflict translates automatically in a whole new level of skill in handling the conflicts of work and life.

Ontological Design, how we design our “way-of-being” consists of our moods and emotions, our public and private conversations and our biology. In the EFL core workshops, trainers’ focus primarily on observing participants’ moods, emotions and language in order to coach them or have them change a way of being that isn’t working. In this course, Stuart and Carol focus on our biology—literally the way we move through space—and then offer distinctions and coaching. For example, participants will take on a particular state or stance and engage in a conversation or interaction. Then, based on coaching and distinctions offered, they will take on a different state or stance and change their result in that same conversation or interaction. Many graduates of our movement courses comment on how they have been able to resolve or breakthrough a particular area that they were “stuck” in previously.
