Education for Living Seminars-Southwest, Inc. is dedicated to
innovation in education. We are committed to showing our clients how to
learn to live their lives with effectiveness, satisfaction and joy. Our
workshops represent a breakthrough in learning in all areas of life
including communication, relationships, and physical and emotional
well-being.
Our workshops address many different aspects of communication,
especially the impact of language and listening on the effectiveness of
communication. We all listen through a set of “filters” –our beliefs,
culture, life experiences—which in turn alters what we actually listen or
experience in conversation. What we commonly call breakdowns in
communication, is in reality our inability to observe the other persons’
filters. Our focus is on teaching people to recognize these barriers to
communication and to learn to speak and listen more effectively.
Many of us feel misunderstood or not heard in our relationships. We are
always in relationship--whether with our significant other, our families,
or casual acquaintances—and we have an automatic way of being in
relationship. In our workshops, we learn to observe what actions we are
taking, or not taking, so that we can create the consistent results we
want for ourselves in relationship. Participants also learn how their
relationship with themselves influences the quality of all their other
relationships.
Our physical and emotional well-being is intimately tied to our moods.
Participants learn the importance of moods and emotions on how we learn
and their influence on our life experience. By learning distinctions
regarding moods and emotions, we increase our ability to observe moods in
others and ourselves, see what actions are possible or not within a
certain mood, and shift or design our mood. Often what we call stress in
life is our unwillingness to be honest and acknowledge whatever emotions
we are experiencing. For example, always wearing a smile or putting on a
happy face, when in reality we are sad, afraid and lonely. We claim that
emotions are a “bridge to learning” and participants learn to accept their
emotions instead of denying or suppressing them.
Our workshop address the phenomenon of completion. There are people,
events and circumstances in our lives in which we are not complete—there
is something unfinished for us. Participants learn the skill of completion
so that they are free to move forward in their lives regarding such
events.
To incorporate all of these elements of learning, we offer a basic
"core workshop", consisting of three separate
courses, designed for coaching and practice in basic life skills. These
courses build on one another, beginning with the primary distinctions of
language and emotion in Stage I, commitment,
completion and public identity in
Stage II, and
leadership, community and team-building in the
Results Program.
